11. Teams
Teams allow multiple users to share a single credit balance for collaborative protein design work. Instead of managing individual accounts and separate billing, research groups can pool their compute resources under one team. See also our Teams announcement.
11.1 Overview
When you join a team, your job costs are drawn from the shared team balance rather than your personal account. This simplifies billing for labs, departments, and collaborative projects where multiple researchers need access to GPU compute.
Key benefits:
- Shared billing: All team members run jobs from a single credit pool
- Role-based permissions: Owners control billing, admins manage membership, members focus on research
- Flexible joining: Invite members by email or let them request access via your team slug
- Credit transfers: Move personal credits to the team balance anytime
11.2 Creating a Team
Any Ariax user can create a new team:
- Navigate to the Team page from your dashboard sidebar
- Click Create Team
- Enter a Team Name (e.g., "Lab Name")
- Enter a Team Slug—a URL-friendly identifier using lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens (e.g.,
lab-name) - Optionally check the box to transfer your current personal balance to the team
- Click Create Team
You become the team owner with full administrative control. Your team slug is what colleagues will use to request access.
Note: You cannot create a team while you have running jobs. Stop all active jobs first.
11.3 Joining a Team
There are two ways to join an existing team:
Accepting an Invitation
Team owners and admins can invite you by email. When invited:
- Go to the Team page
- Find the invitation under Pending Invitations
- Optionally check the box to transfer your personal balance to the team
- Click Accept to join or Decline to reject
Requesting to Join
If you know a team's slug:
- Go to the Team page
- Enter the team slug in the Request to Join section
- Click Send Request
- Wait for a team admin or owner to approve your request
When your request is approved, you'll automatically join as a member.
Note: You cannot join a team while you have running jobs. Stop all active jobs first.
11.4 Team Roles
Teams support three roles with different permissions:
| Role | Capabilities |
|---|---|
| Owner | Full control: billing settings, auto top-up configuration, member management (invite, approve, remove, promote, demote), team deletion |
| Admin | Invite members, approve join requests, remove members |
| Member | Run jobs using team credits, view team information, transfer personal credits to team |
- Each team has exactly one owner (the person who created it)
- Owners can promote members to admin or demote admins to member
- Only the owner can configure billing settings like auto top-up
- Only the owner can delete the team
11.5 Managing Team Members
Owners and admins can manage team membership from the Team page.
Inviting Members
- Click Invite Member
- Enter the email address of an existing Ariax user
- Click Send Invitation
The invited user will see the invitation on their Team page and can accept or decline.
Approving Join Requests
When someone requests to join your team:
- Their request appears under Pending Requests
- Click Approve to add them as a member or Deny to reject
Removing Members
- Find the member in the team roster
- Click the menu icon (three dots)
- Select Remove from Team
Note: You cannot remove a member who has running jobs.
Changing Roles (Owner Only)
- Find the member in the team roster
- Click the menu icon
- Select Promote to Admin or Demote to Member
11.6 Team Billing
When you're on a team, the billing context automatically switches:
- Your dashboard displays the team balance
- All job costs are charged to the team balance
- Your personal balance becomes a Personal Reserve (if you have one)
Viewing the Team Balance
The Team page shows:
- Current team balance
- Auto top-up status (enabled/disabled)
- Number of team members
Transferring Credits to Team
Any team member can transfer their personal balance to the team:
- On the Team page, find Your Personal Reserve
- Click Transfer to Team
- Enter the amount to transfer (or click Transfer All)
- Click Transfer Credits
Credits move instantly from your personal account to the team pool.
Auto Top-Up (Owner Only)
Team owners can configure automatic credit replenishment:
- Go to the Billing page
- Enable Automatic Top-Up
- Set the threshold balance and top-up amount
- Save your settings
When the team balance falls below the threshold, it automatically refills using the owner's saved payment method.
11.7 Leaving a Team
Members and admins can leave a team:
- Go to the Team page
- Click Leave Team
- Confirm your decision
Important notes:
- You cannot leave while you have running jobs
- The team owner cannot leave—they must delete the team instead
- Your personal reserve balance (if any) remains with you when you leave
11.8 Deleting a Team (Owner Only)
Team owners can dissolve the team entirely:
- Go to the Team page
- Scroll to the Danger Zone
- Click Delete Team
- Confirm your decision
What happens when you delete a team:
- All members are removed from the team
- The remaining team balance is returned to your personal account
- Pending invitations and requests are cancelled
- This action cannot be undone
Note: You cannot delete a team while any member has running jobs.
